Teaching Artistry with Courtney J. Boddie is a podcast featuring in-depth conversations with arts and education leaders. With over 50,000 plays and listeners in more than 50 countries, the show explores how creative and educational practices intersect to build community, advance social justice, and inspire joy.

 

Host and creator Courtney J. Boddie speaks with teaching artists and arts educators who are driving the field forward. Together, they reflect on personal journeys, celebrate achievements and challenges, and advocate passionately for the arts in all communities. These devoted arts advocates join her in exploring the inherent joys and challenges of this work, and in recognizing how embracing both triumphs and failures is essential to growth and success—especially in the arts.

Courtney J. Boddie, Creator & Host

​Courtney J. Boddie is a New York City-based executive leader, consultant, creative artist, facilitator, professor, advisor and mentor.  As Vice President of Education & School Engagement at New 42, Ms. Boddie oversees all the New Victory School programs serving nearly 200 NYC schools, after schools and summer programs. Under her leadership, recent arts access initiatives include Teach with GIVE, New Victory Arts Education Resource Library and Speak Up Act Out: Celebrating Student Voices. Notable Recognition: New 42: Tony Honor ​for Excellence in the Theatre (2025), amNY Metro & PoliticsNY Power Players in Education (2024), Crain's New York Notable Black Leader and Executive (2021) and TYA/USA’s Community Impact Award (2019). 

 

Courtney is a co-chair for the Arts Advisory Committee of the Mayor's Panel for Educational Policy. She is adjunct faculty in the Educational Theatre Graduate Program at New York University and is the Creator/Host of Teaching Artistry podcast, featuring conversations with artists and arts education leaders. She is an alumni Artist Fellow of and sits on the Curatorial Committee for the Hermitage Artist Retreat. As a theater maker, she is a founding member of a space between, an ensemble member of NYC Queer Playback Theater and has performed in several productions for Alight Theater Guild, PLG Arts, Youth on Target, Rising Sun Performance Company and East River Theater Company.

Jonathan Zautner, Creative Producer

Jonathan is a creative producer, artist, and storyteller whose work bridges sound, narrative, and immersive experience. As co-creator, producer, and sound editor of the Tree Speech podcast, he guides listeners into a world where storytelling, heartfelt conversation, and quiet discovery meet. Each episode explores our deep-rooted relationships with trees—personal, cultural, and historical—through layered audio, folklore, tradition, and field-based narrative.

Jonathan is the founder of Alight Theater Guild, a nonprofit dedicated to harnessing the transformative power of theater to confront the climate crisis and illuminate the interconnections between people and planet. Most recently, he served as creative director for Solstice in the Park, an outdoor celebration of the summer solstice in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

Rooted in the belief that storytelling can inspire connection and meaningful change, Jonathan seeks work that amplifies authentic voices and invites audiences to engage more deeply with art, nature, and culture.
